“The Mobile World Congress is a combination of the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference featuring prominent executives representing mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the world”. We gave a roundup of the global event in 2012 and 2013 and now we now bring you what to expect at MWC 2014. Keynote addresses Prominent CEOs like Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg, Whatsapp CEO John Koum and a host of many others will be delivering their keynote speeches. Companies like Facebook and Whatsapp have transcended multiple global barriers to become universally applied products. We are looking forward to what the two CEOs will address in their Keynote speeches. Launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Gear As one of the most globally anticipated devices, we too can’t wait for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and what it has to offer. As always there have been multiple rumors about what features and specifications the S5 might have and I guess that is why we can’t wait. Tizen and Firefox Devices Samsung has also been silently forging a future decoupled from Android by developing its own OS with a couple of partners like Intel. And even with a couple of failed/delayed launches, we are expecting the official launch of a Tizen device to offer another alternative OS to compete with the mainstream Android, Windows, Blackberry and iOS. We also expect to see some device finally running Firefox OS other than the ZTE Open and are available commercially. Ubuntu Devices Many people were excited about Ubuntu on mobile and the possibilities it brings given the open nature of the Ubuntu platform. Ubuntu hopes to do a reboot into mobile following the failure of Ubuntu Edge, crowdfunded a project that aimed to produce a phone that could also double as a desktop at just $695. Following the failure, Shuttleworth, speaking to the Guardian, insisted that despite the failure, carriers and handset makers were still definitely interested in building handsets which will run the mobile. Devices from Vendors/Manufacturers Lastly, we shall have multiple manufacturers/Vendors like Nokia, HTC, Sony, LG, Huawei, ZTE, Motorola announcing their 2014 line of phones and tablets. Nokia is planning to release its budget Android phone Code named “Nokia Normandy”. HTC is expected to showcase its latest flagship the HTC M8. LG may announce its LG G3 while Huawei is expected to announce a couple of tablets and their iteration of the P6 not to forget that they launching a smart watch too. The only issue is that for many of these manufacturers, the devices never reach Africa or if they do, its so late.
