There have been speculations online for many months about the next Pocophone and after a long wait, tomorrow February 4 is the day the world will be introduced to the Pocophone X2 (Poco X2 in some markets.)

Poco X2: Speculated Features

For a device with as much attention as the next Poco, it is no wonder that we have seen countless leaks about this device. If the leaks and even the official teasers are anything to go by, the new device seems like the re-branded version of the Redmi K30 that was launched in China back in December 2019. This means the Pocophone X2 will have;

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G6 GB RAM A 6.67-inch IPS LCD display (1080 x 2400 px; 395 PPI)Quad-camera (64 + 8 + 2 + 2 MP) on the rearDual (20 MP + 2 MP) front shooters 4500 mAh battery with Fast Charging via a USB Type-C port

More will be revealed at the launch event tomorrow so stay tuned for updates in a couple of hours.

Pocophone F1 is getting Android 10

The first Pocophone, the F1 was launched back in 2018. The device had the absolute top-of-the-line internals at the time, with a functional exterior and a price tag a quarter of some of the devices at the time. The device has aged well, having been updated from the Android 8 Oreo it launched with, to Android 9 Pie and now, the device is getting updated to Android 10. The update which is based on Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 can be identified by its software version number, v11.0.4.0.QEJMIXM. As this is an OTA update, Xiaomi is rolling it out in phases and it should be hitting your Pocophone F1 really soon. However, if you are not the patient type, there is a way to install it right now. For this, you need to have unlocked your bootloader and flashed a custom recovery like TWRP or OrangeFox. You then need to grab the update zip file from this link. Reboot into recovery and install the zip, just like you would install a custom ROM.

Future of Poco

Recently, Xiaomi India CEO, Manu Kumar Jain confirmed that the POCO brand is now independent of Xiaomi and will operate on its own henceforward. It remains unclear what will become of this new brand seeing as Xiaomi, the parent company already has the Redmi line of phones that plays in the same market segment that the Poco brand is targeted at. It will be interesting to see how these brands fair in terms of market share and whether the soon-to-be-launched Pocophone will be pushed into Africa, a market that is very ideal for Xiaomi’s strategy of affordable devices with awesome features.
